Descripción
A European consortium is preparing a proposal under the ERASMUS+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) call, focusing on the transformation of basic dental science education in Jordan and Palestine. The project targets the modernization of dental morphology and oral histology courses through curriculum reform and the integration of technology-enhanced teaching approaches. The consortium is seeking two European Universities with strong academic expertise in dental sciences.
Title
A European consortium is seeking two universities with expertise in dental sciences from two different European countries to join an ERASMUS+ CBHE proposal on transforming basic dental science education in Jordan and Palestine.
Abstract
The proposed initiative addresses the need to modernize the teaching and learning of basic dental science courses in Higher Education Institutions in Jordan and Palestine. While blended learning approaches have been partially introduced, core subjects such as dental morphology and oral histology remain largely dependent on traditional, laboratory-based and didactic teaching methods. These approaches present limitations in terms of student engagement, accessibility, sustainability, and the effective development of three-dimensional anatomical understanding required for subsequent clinical training.
The project focuses on transforming the delivery of dental morphology and oral histology through targeted curriculum modernization and the integration of evidence-based, technology-enhanced teaching approaches. In dental morphology, the initiative aims to strengthen students’ spatial understanding of tooth anatomy through immersive and interactive learning environments that support visualization, manipulation, and repeated practice. In oral histology, the project seeks to enhance teaching and learning through the adoption of virtual microscopy and gamified learning approaches, improving access to learning materials, student engagement, and knowledge retention.
The initiative builds on a well-developed concept that includes the integration of immersive technologies, digital learning resources, and structured academic staff training activities, with the objective of establishing a sustainable and transferable model for basic dental science education. The project targets undergraduate dental students in the early years of study, as well as academic staff involved in teaching basic dental sciences, with expected outcomes including improved learning performance, enhanced student experience, and strengthened institutional capacity.
The European consortium currently includes partners from EU Programme Countries (including Greece), two Higher Education Institutions from Palestine, and will be coordinated by a Jordanian university. To complete the partnership, the consortium is seeking at least two universities from two different European Programme Countries with strong academic expertise in dental sciences, particularly in dental morphology and oral histology. The involvement of these European partners will ensure a balanced and complementary consortium, support the transfer of academic and pedagogical know-how, and contribute to effective capacity building in line with ERASMUS+ CBHE requirements.
Advantages and innovation
The project adopts a capacity-building approach centered on curriculum reform in dental sciences, enhancement of teaching and learning practices, and strengthening of academic staff competences. Innovation lies in the modernization of basic dental science education through evidence-based pedagogical approaches and the integration of interactive and digital learning methods. The project supports sustainability by developing transferable educational resources and strengthening institutional capacities that extend beyond the project duration.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The consortium is seeking at least two universities from two different European Programme Countries with demonstrated academic expertise in dental sciences. In particular, the sought partners should meet most of the following criteria:
• Higher Education Institutions offering accredited undergraduate dental programmes.
• Strong academic expertise in dental sciences, such as dental morphology, dental anatomy, oral histology and/or related foundational subjects.
• Experience in curriculum development, review, or modernization in dental education.
• Engagement with innovative or technology-enhanced teaching approaches in dentistry (for example blended learning, virtual learning tools, digital microscopy, interactive teaching methods).
• Capacity and willingness to contribute to academic staff training, mentoring, and transfer of pedagogical know-how in a capacity-building context.
Previous experience in ERASMUS+ CBHE or other international/European projects is considered a strong asset.
